Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the second most common cause of premature death in England, after cancer, affecting seven million people. One in four premature deaths are caused by CVD, and 1.6 million disability adjusted life years can be attributed to it. High blood pressure significantly increases the risk of having a heart attack or stroke, but early detection and treatment can help people live longer, healthier lives.
High blood pressure can cause serious health complications, including heart attacks, heart disease, and strokes. It is known at the silent killer as it rarely has any noticeable symptoms until it’s too late, so regular checks are important.
Our pharmacy team can provide a simple blood pressure check for all patients. Those eligible patients will be provided a BP free of charge under the NHS service. For non-eligible patients there is a cost to the service.
The service involves a BP check provided in a private consultation room. The BP will be checked twice as a minimum to ensure consistency in readings. Should any further BP checks be needed the staff member will explain why and offer any further Bp check.
On completion the staff member will provide the results of the BP – low, normal or high. The outcome of the result will determine the next steps and these can include,
If you’re eligible under the NHS Service then the blood pressure checks are free but don’t worry if you’re not eligible, its only £5 per check.
